The GL-Class comes as standard with the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission. It is operated via the DIRECT SELECT lever on the steering column. The seven forward gears in the 7G-TRONIC allow an ideally adapted engine speed at all times, thus cutting fuel consumption, while the shorter shift times and smoother shifts make gear changes easier as well as reducing the noise level. Driving enjoyment is also enhanced: the car benefits from better acceleration and boasts more pulling power. What?s more, gears can be skipped for fast in-gear acceleration. Manual shifting is also possible – via the shift paddles on the steering wheel.
