The Toyota Camry, a mid-sized car manufactured by Toyota since 1980, has the name “Camry” from a phonetic transcription of kanmuri, a Japanese word which means “crown”. For the Southeast and East Asian markets, the high specification Camry models are seen as executive cars. The Camrys sold in this market have sported revised rear nad front-end treatment since the 6th generation XV30 model. For the XV40, the 7th model, the same was done although the Australian-designed Toyota Aurion, which is based on the 7th generation Camry was the donor model. The Aurion has revised rear end and front treatment and changes to the interior, but is fitted with the same assembly. Starting in the 1997, the Camry has been the best selling car for nine of the last ten years in the United States, with the only exception being 2001. It also sells very well in Canada, Australia, and a number of Asian markets. It has been critized for less sporty handling, due to comfort-tuned suspensions in most models despite of its success.
